THE WORLD XI dominated England 3-0 as they ran out winners of Soccer Aid.
Kem Cetinay netted twice before Lee Mack FINALLY got his goal at the annual Unicef mega-match!
All for a good cause, Soccer Aid has raised over £60million for Unicef since its inception in 2006 with a record-breaking £13m raised this year.
WE’LL TROY HARD TO FIND YOU
Not many birthday boys will have celebrated better at an international this weekend than Bukayo Saka – but it migh tturn out to be as good for this lad might if Troy Deeney responds to his dad’s Twitter request.
The day before Saka rounded off England’s 4-0 Wembley win over Andorra, Chris Atkinson was at Soccer Aid, where he posted a picture of his “eldest” in a Troy Deeney Birmingham shirt.
Deeney has joined the club he supported as a child from Watford.
And Atkinson senior hashtagged the striker to say he hopes the 33-year-old will “soon” sign the No 36 top at St Andrews.
LAUGH TIME ENTERTAINMENT
There might have been no Premier League games but his tweet showed how the “international break” can be more offbeat than you think – with honourable mentions for Peppa Pig and Lee Mack
SHOULD MACK REPLACE KANE?
It’s the question no-one’s been asking..
But after comedian Lee Mack swivelled to finally break his Soccer Aid goal duck, in the Rest of the World’s 3-0 win over England, it’s popped up on social media…
One has an uncanny Mack… for (usually) not scoring… whereas the other is always in a hurry, keen to net.
KENN-DO ATTITUDE
Singer Dermot Kennedy admits he struggled to get to grips with Wayne Rooney – except when he, er, got to grips with him..
But the Irish songwriter, 29, has been praised for his football skills – and he looked in possibly better shape physically than the 35-year-old England and Manchester United legend.
‘SCHOLES GOOD ENOUGH FOR ARSENAL’
Football fans reckon England’s Soccer Aid team could beat Premier League strugglers Arsenal at this moment in time.
The Gunners failed to score or pick up a point in their first three Prem games of the season, with pressure mounting on manager Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal lost to newly promoted Brentford, European champions Chelsea and Prem holders Manchester City in the opening weeks of the season.
Arteta’s side have managed just one win this term, a 6-0 rout over West Brom’s kids in the League Cup.
England’s Soccer Aid XI – which lost 3-0 to a World XI – was made up of ex-professionals and celebrities.
Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes were among the Three Lions legends on display, with singer Olly Murs leading the team.
After seeing the XI, one fan tweeted: “England’s Soccer Aid XI would beat Arsenal at the moment.”
While Soccer Aid winner Piers Morgan tweeted: “I’d take Paul Scholes in Arsenal’s current midfield.”
SHAWBERTO CARLOS
Really nice of Luke Shaw to sit down with some of the Man United legends and talk them through his technique…
Darren Fletcher and Roberto Carlos’ World XI may have got the better of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes’ England last night at Soccer Aid, but it’s nice they’re still able to catch up over a cuppa.
Neville and Scholes’ Man United took on Roberto Carlos’ Real Madrid on various occasions throughout their careers, with the famous 4-3 of 2003 at Old Trafford springing to mind as one of the best ever.
That was the fateful night Ronaldo Nazario got a standing ovation from the Old Trafford faithful for his phenomenal hat-trick for Los Blancos in their 4-3 defeat to the Red Devils.
Roberto Carlos got his revenge last night, however, defeating his old foes soundly 3-0 thanks to two goals from Kem Cetinay and a late poachers finish from Lee Mack.
