Wiltshire supply chain giant Wincanton has appointed a new chief financial officer (CFO).

The listed company, which is headquartered in Chippenham, has hired Tom Hinton, following an extensive search. He will join the board from August 15.

Mr Hinton previously held group CFO positions at renewable energy firm Infinis; insurance company Domestic & General; and international mining and chemicals business WE Soda.

James Clarke, who has been in an interim role as CFO since March 1, will continue in the job until Mr Hinton joins the firm.

Dr Martin Read, chair of Wincanton, said: “We are delighted to appoint someone of Tom’s calibre to the board. He has a strong financial and commercial track record and will be a great asset to the company”.

James Wroath, chief executive of Wincanton, said Mr Hinton’s experience and “engaging and innovative style” complemented Wincanton’s strategic direction.

“I am pleased to welcome Tom to his new role as we lead Wincanton through the next stage of our development,” he said. “I would also like to place on record my sincere thanks to James Clarke who has been a great support to me and the business in his role.”

Mr Hinton does not currently hold any Wincanton shares and no further information in connection with his appointment is required to be disclosed.

He added: “I very much look forward to joining Wincanton and becoming part of the executive management team. Wincanton’s strong operational performance, blue-chip customer base, and considerable growth potential make this an exciting opportunity”.
