Originally named Alan Charles Lancaster, he was born on February 7, 1949 in Peckham, London, England, and is best known as a bassist and founding member of the British rock band Status Quo. In addition to contributing to composition, he was one of the main singers on albums and live performances, singing lead on songs such as “Backwater,” “Bye Bye Johnny,” “High Flyer,” and “Roadhouse Blues,” among others.
Alan Lancaster and his then-schoolmate Francis Rossi came together to create the group in 1962. His last appearance as a full-time member of Status Quo took place at Wembley Stadium on July 13, 1985, as part of the Live Aid concert series. In March 2013, he reunited with his former bandmates for a series of “Frantic Four” performances in the United Kingdom, which sold out in advance. With the exception of the last night at Wembley Arena, they were all sold out.
