A cinema believed to be the oldest purpose-built picture house still operating in the UK is selling its seats as part of a major refurbishment.
The Duke of York’s, in Brighton, is asking for about £25 each, with funds going to children’s charity Plan UK.
Associate manager Felicity Beckett said while the seats were a piece of cinema history, they were quite bulky and had to be screwed to the floor.
The grade II-listed building first opened to the public in September 1910.
It cost £3,000 to build and has been transformed from an Edwardian palace to an art house cinema.
Ms Beckett said the cinema would be closed for six days during its overhaul, from 19 August.
