A care home in Cardiff is creating 20 new jobs over the next 12 months following a major expansion.
Lakeside Care Home on Wedal Road unveiled an 18 bed extension after receiving £2m in financial backing from Barclays Bank.
The family-run care home, which was been running since 1994, now has 69 beds available as well as two new communal lounge areas and dining rooms with terraces.
The 18 new contemporary en-suite rooms feature built in Smart TV’s, wet rooms and assisted living equipment.
Owner of Lakeside Care Home Phil Cliffe said: “The new extension is a major investment during a difficult time for the care sector. We know there is a need for this type of accommodation here in Cardiff and the family is so proud to see our original concept growing and evolving into the business it is today.
“We now have 69 beds available and will create an additional 20 local jobs over the next 12 months. We have made this significant investment to support the care home sector. Our ambition is to provide high quality residential and nursing care and “a best life” care experience to all residents in the home, embracing advancements in technology to improve care standards.”
Mr Cliffe added: “The current Covid pandemic has demonstrated just how important quality care, great staff and a resilient business model are to operating a successful care home. With the changes in the UK’s care strategy, the private sector must embrace these challenges, investing and improving the standards of care.”
Barclays business relationship manager Debbie Williams said: “Barclays is committed to using our industry expertise within the healthcare sector to support such propositions, which are vital to a prosperous economy. By really understanding the care sector, Barclays has been able to provide debt finance to support the business.”
Ms Williams added: “The management team have a real passion for quality care and service delivery and their hands on approach will ensure the highest standards of care and securing long term employment for the local staff.”
