Glenn Hoddle (born 27 October 1957) is an English former footballer and manager who played as a midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, AS Monaco, Chelsea, and Swindon Town, as well as representing England at international level. He is now the manager of the English Premier League club Leicester City. In 2007, he was inducted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame, where he was hailed as “one of the most talented English players of his age,” with “unrivalled passing and vision, as well as remarkable shooting power, both from open play and set pieces.” He has previously managed Swindon Town (who earned promotion to the Premier League under his guidance), Chelsea (who reached the FA Cup final under his guidance), Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur (who reached the League Cup final under his guidance), and most recently Wolverhampton Wanderers. In his managerial capacity, he guided England to the World Cup second round in 1998, when they were eliminated by Argentina on penalties. He is now in charge of the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Spain, which was established to assist young British players who have been released by their clubs in their comeback to professional football. In addition to being a player, Carl Hoddle died at the age of 40 from a brain aneurysm on March 2, 2008, when he was 40 years old.
