FinTRU, one of Northern Ireland’s fastest-growing fintech companies, is creating 300 jobs at a new base in Donegal.
The company, which was founded in 2013 in Belfast by Darragh McCarthy, said the roles in Letterkenny will be filled over the next five years in a project which is supported by the Republic’s investment agency the IDA (Industrial Development Agency).
FinTru said the move was a “natural progression” following the successful build out of its Londonderry base where it already has an office of some 300 people. In total, the firm employs more than 1,000 people there, at its base in Belfast and in Dublin, Mastricht, and New York.
“We already employ several people from Letterkenny and the wider County of Donegal, so it was a natural step for us to open an EU Delivery Office right here in Letterkenny,” chief executive officer Darragh McCarthy said. “The highly educated and ambitious talent based here in Donegal was a major motivating factor in FinTrU choosing Letterkenny as the next EU base.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin welcomed the announcement of the new jobs.
“FinTrU’s announcement that it’s creating 300 jobs, providing new opportunities in Letterkenny, Donegal and the North West is wonderful news,” he said. “Ireland has established itself as a leading global financial services centre and we are committed to building on this success.
“This new location will further support FinTrU as we continue to work with the largest international investment banks across the world.”
That work is focused on providing compliance services to ensure the banks comply with global banking regulations, a service which has found increasing appetite from some of the most well-known names in the sector and helped FinTRU to be named one of the fastest growing companies in the UK by the Financial Times.
