An “armed robber” who went on the run after a raid at a McDonald’s in South Gloucestershire has been arrested.
A manhunt was launched and the police helicopter deployed after cash was stolen from the restaurant in Yate at about 07:00 GMT. Nobody was hurt.
It followed a robbery at nearby Miss Millie’s restaurant in the town at 18:20 on Sunday, where staff were threatened and cash was taken.
A 22-year-old man is being questioned in connection with two armed robberies.
Police said a firearm was recovered on Monday and is being examined.
The McDonald’s restaurant in West Walk and the fried chicken restaurant in North Parade are about 150 yds (137m) away from each other.
Det Insp Dan Rowan said: “We’re grateful for the public calling in with any information as part of our inquiries so far and would continue to ask for witnesses to come forward.
“Thankfully incidents of this nature are rare but we appreciate the community will have understandable concerns about what has happened and additional patrols are being carried out.”
The man remains in police custody.
