THE LOWDOWN: HUGE ADMIRERS It’s no secret that the Reds, like many other elite clubs across Europe, are somewhat enamoured with Bellingham as the 19-year-old’s stock continues to rise. Signed from Birmingham as a fledgling teenager in 2020, the gifted English sensation has made his mark in the Bundesliga at a tender age, directly contributing to 28 goals in 89 outings since arriving at Dortmund.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Sheffield United stopper Kenny claimed that he can envisage Liverpool spending the required eye-watering sum to land the 15-cap England international.

The 44-year-old said: “He has been rumoured to be going to Liverpool for a while now. It’s a lot of money isn’t it? £100million. He is obviously a massive prospect and he is probably one of the top names in the world people are looking at.

“I can easily see Liverpool spending that kind of money on a big name. They have done it before with Alisson and Van Dijk.

“Then there is Nunez as well. Why not? Liverpool always get these deals right and I’m sure they will be looking at bringing him in next summer.”

Despite an apparent reluctance from FSG to consistently splash the cash during their tenure at Anfield, the American owners have been willing to break the bank for transformational signings as and when required.

Following the £36m arrival of Ibrahima Konate last summer and a club-record £85m outlay on Darwin Nunez in recent weeks, both the attacking and defensive department have enjoyed fresh impetus in recent transfer windows.

By contrast, the midfield remains much the same as in recent years, so spending big on a natural successor for the likes of James Milner and Jordan Henderson could well be the next priority for Jurgen Klopp, Julian Ward and the Liverpool hierarchy.

Likened to Kop legend Steven Gerrard and hailed as a ‘ridiculous player’ by BT Sport’s Head of social media James McManus, Bellingham – who shares a stylistic likeness with Pedri, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and the Reds’ own Naby Keita (FBRef) – presents the ideal candidate to arrive at Liverpool and strengthen the ranks both in the short-term and over the coming decade.
