All three of Liverpool’s summer signings are expected to make their debuts in July and the transfer window remains open for any further business.
Here are the key dates for you to take note of for July.
July 1 – Arrivals and departures
It’s been a long time coming, but July finally marks the start of Fabio Carvalho‘s time at the club.
After a failed attempt to sign him in January, Liverpool confirmed a deal for the Portugal under-21 international in May, with a view to completing the deal on the first day of this month.
Carvalho will soon link up with his new team-mates for pre-season training and will be expected to make his Reds debut in the coming weeks.
The new month also marks the end of the road for the players who were named on Liverpool’s release list, with Divock Origi, Loris Karius, Sheyi Ojo, Ben Woodburn, Elijah Dixon-Bonner, Luis Longstaff and Sean Wilson all no longer contracted to the club.
July 4 – Pre-season begins
The majority of Jurgen Klopp‘s squad will reconvene at the AXA Training Centre on Monday, July 4, giving them five weeks to prepare for the start of the new Premier League season.
They are then expected to fly to Asia later in the week, where they’ll play the first of their pre-season matches, ahead of other trips to Germany and Austria towards the end of July.
Players who were on international duty at the end of the season are unlikely to report to Kirkby straight away, with Klopp expected to grant them more time off, but there are at least 17 players set to report for day one.
July 12 – Man United (Thailand)
Not a bad game to get things started. Liverpool’s first friendly of pre-season will see them take on Man United at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok.
Kickoff is set for 2pm BST (8pm local time).
The match will also mark the start of Man United‘s pre-season, as they embark on a new era under Erik ten Hag.
This Is Anfield understands that this will also be when the Reds sport their new away kit, which we expect to be unveiled on the same day.
July 15 – Crystal Palace (Singapore)
Liverpool will then move on to Singapore where, three days later, they face Crystal Palace at the Singapore National Stadium.
The match will get underway at 1.35pm (8.35pm local time).
It remains to be seen when new signings Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsay will make their debuts but, providing there are no issues, it could be that their first taste of action for the Reds will come in Asia.
Liverpool last faced Patrick Vieira’s side in January, running out 3-1 winners after goals from Virgil van Dijk, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fabinho at Selhurst Park.
July 21 – RB Leipzig (Germany)
The next leg of Liverpool’s pre-season preparations takes them to the Red Bull Arena in Germany, where they’ll face RB Leipzig at 6.15pm (7.15pm local time).
By this point Klopp should have most, if not all, of his squad at his disposal once more.
The match should also give Ibrahima Konate the opportunity to reunite with some of his former team-mates.
July 27 – Red Bull Salzburg (Austria)
The last stop before Liverpool return to England will be in Austria, where they’ll face Leizpig’s sister club Red Bull Salzburg at 7pm (8pm local time).
Klopp and his players will settle for a training camp in Austria, with just under two weeks to work away from media obligations.
The Reds last played Salzburg during the 2020 pre-season, with Patson Daka and Rhian Brewster both scoring braces in a 2-2 draw.
July 30 – Man City (Community Shield)
Liverpool’s penultimate match before their league campaign gets underway will see them face Man City in the Community Shield, the season’s annual curtain-raiser.
This year, the match will take place at Leicester‘s King Power Stadium, with the usual venue Wembley hosting the Women’s European Championship final on the same weekend.
Klopp is likely to use this game to test something close to his strongest team ahead of the Premier League opener at Fulham seven days later.
July 31 – Strasbourg (Anfield)
Liverpool will conclude their preparations for 2022/23 at Anfield, less than 24 hours after their clash with Man City.
Those who didn’t feature on the Saturday will be given some valuable minutes here.
It’s not the first time Liverpool have planned two pre-season games on consecutive days, with Klopp keen to give everyone in his squad the opportunity to impress ahead of the new season.
This could be the first time Carvalho, Nunez and Ramsay play at Anfield, but that will depend on the part they play against City.
