A repeat of last year’s sizzling Easter weekend looks likely, but April is set to be a mixed bag with heavy rain at the start before the unsettled weather subsides just in time for the Bank Holiday
There could be another roasting Easter around the corner with the scorching Spring sunshine set to return in the weeks ahead.
Britain has baked in highs of 21C over the last four days and the temperatures could be set to soar again from mid-April.
That means egg hunts outside could be on again for millions after last year’s glorious Bank Holiday brought sweltering conditions as we tucked into chocolate on Easter Sunday.
The British Weather Services claim that some parts of the UK may even enjoy 28C warmth in just three weeks time.
Although the Met Office state it is too soon to know for sure how warm it will be at Easter, things are looking promising – even if there’s rain on the way before.
Forecaster Stephen Dixon says we may be getting some reward after a soggy start to next month.
He told the Mirror : “From Tuesday we will start to see the influence of the cold air coming down from the north, it will start to be unsettled again on Wednesday.
“Going into April we’re going to see more of that unsettled weather across the UK, that’s for sure. The warmth won’t last past this weekend, but it’s probably not the last we’ve seen of it before summer.
“There will be showers, heavy at times, but it will be more dryer in southern areas. Unfortunately we won’t be getting the warmer weather we have enjoyed this week at the start of next month.
“However, there is potentially some good news – it will be much more settled by mid-April and the trends we are seeing are more encouraging.
“We can’t put numbers on it quite yet, but people can draw their own conclusions when we say there could be a return, for many, to much more settled weather.”
While the Met Office avoided saying how warm Easter could be, Jim Dale – the senior meteorologist at the British Weather Services – said there is a real possibility that some parts of the UK could see temperatures as high as 28C.
“I know March is the start of Spring but I think we’re probably going to get properly into April before we start to see the searing sort of temperatures.”
He added: “I wouldn’t be surprised to see 26°C, 27°C, 28°C in the middle of April.
“Longer-term, given what’s happening globally in terms of the temperature profiles in the southern hemisphere and what’s also happening in the United States, I would not be surprised if we started to see some big highlights.”
A leading bookmaker has meanwhile has slashed the odds on this summer being the UK’s hottest on record.
Coral now make it 2-1 – down from from 5-1 – to break records.
“The weekend sunshine has got Brits dreaming of summer already” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.
“With temperatures rising we have slashed the odds on the UK recording its hottest ever summer in 2022.”
Early April
The first few weeks of April follow a very similar theme all over the UK – it’s going to be unsettled.
There will be showers, some heavy, and the north of England will be the worst hit.
The south will be less wet, but there won’t be too much in the way of sun.
Mid-April
Things will start to warm up in the second half of April.
There’s hope it will be another very warm Easter, with some even predicting it will be hotter than last year’s 24C sizzler.
Most of the country can expect warm and sunny spells after a drab start to the month.
Late April and early May
The Met Office say it’s difficult to know yet in the sunny burst will last.
Temperatures will drop from April 25 and early forecasts show cloud with 15C warmth.
But, at the moment, it is expected to be a dry end to the month.
