In Wisconsin, a surgeon and hiker were found dead on a local railroad at least one week after she last contacted her family – with her body overturned at a waterfall with a steep 90-foot dropoff.
According to sheriffs in Iron County, Kelsey Musgrove, 26, had told the family she had reached Potato River Falls in Gurney on March 26.
Four days later, on March 30, police in their native Middletown asked the county to search for cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Wisconsin.
Authorities found Musgrove’s car in the parking lot at Potato River Falls and found her body at a 90-foot waterfall on April 3, they said in a press release.
The sheriff’s office said it did not commit any crime concerning her death – but gave no reason yet.

The sheriff’s office did not suspect wrongdoing but did not explain Musgroves’ death.
“All indications at the location and information from family and friends lead us to believe that she had been walking along the Potato River and did not return to her car,” she wrote.
“We want to express our sincere consolations to Kelsey’s family,” the police added.
UW Health, where Musgrove ran her community, issued its statement about her death.
“We are deeply pained by the loss of our colleague Dr. Kelsey Musgrove,” said spokeswoman Emily Kumlien. ‘Her peers recognized her as a great surgeon, an excellent mentor, and an amiable and positive spirit. Our thoughts and sympathies are with her friends and family during this difficult time. ‘
Sara Margaret Grossi, a frequent traveling companion and close friend of Musgrove, posted about her grief on her Facebook page.
‘I could always cheer her up, no matter how big the problem with pistachio ice cream. I can not repair this time with a few creatures, but I can love her, even though she is no longer here to lie with me under the stars and guess constellations. We will meet those stars again one day, wink at each other awkwardly, and laugh. ‘
The body of a 30-year-old Wisconsin surgeon who vanished on a hike was located near the path she was last reported to be on, authorities said.
Dr. Kelsey A. Musgrove, a cardiothoracic surgery associate at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, was reported cutting on March 30, the Iron County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday in a news release.
Authorities in Middleton, where Musgrove is from, warned the Iron County Sheriff’s Office that she forgot to bear from her hike.
“Her last contact was that she had called the Potato River Falls in Gurney” on March 26, the discharge said.
Middleton authorities described her auto to the sheriff’s office with a submission to prevent the Potato River Falls area.
Deputies found the related vehicle in the parking area at the Falls, prompting an expansive ground, air, and water search.
The sheriff’s office said the scene and information from her family and friends “lead us to believe she had gone hiking along the Potato River and had not returned to her vehicle.”
More than two dozen agents across Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota assisted in the search, which ended when her body was found at 11:35 p.m. Sunday “in a room near the Potato River Falls,” the sheriff’s office said.
“An investigation into the reason of death is ongoing, but no foul play is supposed at this moment,” Sheriff Paul Samardick stated.
According to All Trails, Potato River Falls is believed to be an easy route that takes less than 30 minutes to complete.
UW Health press secretary Emily Kumlien related NBC News in a statement, “The loss of our colleague Dr. Kelsey Musgrove deeply saddens us.”
“Her peers recognized her as a great surgeon, an excellent mentor, and an extremely kind and optimistic spirit. Our thoughts and consolations are with her friends and lineage during this difficult time,” the statement continued.
