Thousands descend on Glasgow tonight for the switch-on of the city’s Christmas lights

Glasgow’s Christmas lights are some of the most festive in the UK. The city center has colorful displays every year that put everyone in the holiday spirit. This year, check out the lights at George Square, where you’ll find a dazzling Christmas tree and other festive decorations.
Christmas lights will be turned on at Glasgow’s City Hall in front of thousands.

Organizers have warned of some disruption to traffic around the George Square area, with road closures and parking restrictions in place.


Entry to the event is through Cochrane Street and George Street and opens, and the lucky 10,600 lucky enough to have their hands on a ticket can get in between 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm.

A stellar lineup of entertainment will be on hand, including George Bowie and Cassi Gillespie, who will host the event. A Little Mix Magic tribute act will kick off the festivities at 5 pm, followed by the 20-piece Berrie Big Band and Soul Nation Choir, a crowd sing-along, and a comedy segment. Santa Claus himself will also stop off in George Square to greet the crowd ahead of a performance from Scottish pop star Callum Beattie.

The lights will be switched at 7 pm as a firework display is set off simultaneously above Glasgow City Chambers.

There are Anchor Lanes, Cochrane Streets, Dundas Lanes, Dundas Streets, George Streets (between Montrose Street and George Square), Hanover Streets, John Streets, Martha Streets, Montrose Streets (northbound), Nelson Mandela Place, North Frederick Streets, North Hanover Streets, South Frederick Streets, West George Streets, Ingram Streets, Queen Streets, and St Vincent Places.
