A Manchester company owned by Uber and aiming to create 200 jobs by 2025 has made a top hire.

Mike Russell has joined Autocab, which has its headquarters at No.2 Circle Square in the city centre, as its chief operating officer.

Autocab provides taxi dispatch software and relocated from its Cheadle Royal Business Park base earlier this year.

Mr Russell is currently chief operating officer at travel technology firm Open Destinations in London.

He has held that role since September 2016, having been chief executive at Comtec Group prior to that.

Mr Russell has also been CEO at Vertical Systems and managing director at Holiday Experts.

He said: “Autocab has a brilliant team which has enabled it to be such a success story over the last thirty years. Implementing complex, central, systems in any business is a major endeavour and the key to success is having strong relationships at all levels.

“I look forward to meeting Autocab’s customers around the world and to building strong and rewarding relationships with them.”

Mr Russell’s appointment comes after Autocab recently appointed Jamie Lyons as its chief commercial officer.

Chief executive Safa Alkateb added: “Mike has a solid understanding of global operations, go-to-market strategy, and customer satisfaction, and a proven track record of maximising the growth potential of a range of businesses.

“Excellent project execution and optimising the way we work, as we expand globally, are at the heart of delivering best-in-class solutions for our clients.

“I’m delighted to welcome someone of Mike’s calibre as our new chief operating officer and have every confidence that he will provide the leadership and rigour to enable us to deliver against one of our most important strategic priorities.”
