Which? Later Life Care: what is changing?

W

In order to streamline and better integrate the expert advice we offer, we have decided to close our separate Later Life Care website, including the Care Services Directory and the Cost of Care and Eligibility calculator.

We will continue to provide lots of our most popular free guidance about planning, arranging and paying for care and support in later life. This information can now be found on the main Which? website.

Where can I find advice from Which? about later life care?
Here are some links to help you find the information you need:

  • How to choose the right care in later life: our quick guide to the main care options
  • Care options: information about care homes, care at home, sheltered housing and getting a needs assessment
  • Financing care: detailed advice on paying for care in later life
  • Staying independent at home: tips on how to future proof your home in later life
  • Technology to make later life easier: from personal alarms to memory aids
  • Help with mobility: equipment to help you get out and about, from walking sticks to wheelchairs, as well as how to get a parking Blue Badge.

What topics will no longer be covered by Which?
Some information that was previously provided on the Later Life Care website will no longer be available from Which?. But we are confident that these subjects are covered in detail by other respected organisations. For example:

  • Find information about dementia from the Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK
  • Find information about health and wellbeing in later life from Age UK
  • Find information about carers’ rights at work from Carers UK
  • Find information about coping with bereavement from Cruse Bereavement Support.

How to find the right care provider
The Which? Care Services Directory is no longer available.

For practical tips on how to search for a care provider in your area, read our free guides:

  • How to choose a care home
  • How to choose a home care service

You can also search for care homes, retirement housing and other care services across the UK on the HousingCare website, operated by the Elderly Accommodation Counsel (EAC), a national charity that helps older people with housing options.
